sunday 5/17, join us for a very special celebration of soil at our May garden work party and free garden class!
♉️
we will come together to shape Earth into garden beds, we will enrich those beds with compost and protect those beds with mulch. we will plant in the soil and weed in the soil and give thanks for all life that comes from the soil.
♉️
this celebration will also include an incredible opportunity to get to know the soil ecosystem more intimately... so after getting our hands dirty, we will get our minds dirty with Dee Silva who will share an *Intro to Soil Microbes* at 2pm.
♉️
Dee, a beloved PMS student, is a 28 y.o. Black queer soil researcher, public health advocate, spiritual practitioner, stylist & mixed media artist from JXN, MS. they are devoted to a decolonial praxis surrounding the replenishing and maintenance of soil life
in the class they will breakdown....
the importance of microbes as it pertains the soil, the destruction of soil life via multiple colonial practices (e.g. mono crop agriculture), 4 common beneficial soil microbes (indigenous microbes, lactobacillus, photosynthetic bacteria, mycorrhizal fungi) that ppl can harness/cultivate and their functions in the soil as it pertains to the growth of plants and maintenance of the soil ecosystem.
♉️
we are so excited to celebrate the soil with dee and with all of you this sunday! please join us if you can!
♉️
as always work parties are free and open to everyone who loves the soil as our living breathing ancestor. and as always there will be food, tea, fun, and lots of good work, play and rest to do together.
and for folks interested in being a garden member, please come thru and meet the garden! there are still beds available for personal stewardship and we can welcome more folks as community builder members too!
